Celestron Origin Tips and Recommendations
Use a network extender
Initially I connected the Celestron Origin to my router, but the connection to the telescope kept dropping. I plugged in a network extender in the nearest interior outlet to where the telescope was deployed, which resolved the problem. (Note that the device also has to connect to the network extender, not the router, unless these are part of a mesh network.)
Download the instruction manual
The Celestron Origin arrives with the quick start guide, but not a user manual, nor even a reference to one.
I downloaded the Celestron Origin Instruction Manual (#12099) -- which is an excellent guide -- from the Celestron website. An electronic copy is good to have in any event.
Extend the device screen timeout
Curiously, the app does not prevent the device from timing out; I set the screen timeout to as long as possible.
Keep in mind the app uses "Origin" to refer to itself
When I first used the app, I was not certain when the app reported that "Origin" could connect to the network, say, the reference was to the telescope or to the the app. The reference is to the app.
The error message about no stars near a bright Moon does not impair the operation
When the nearly full Moon is selected the target, when Origin approaches the Moon, an error message pops up stating it cannot detect stars for tracking (which is not surprising). The telescope still moves to the Moon just fine.
