Seestar Tips and Recommendations
Connect with a tablet
A larger screen (compared to a mobile phone) makes the images more impressive and easier to share. A tablet readily supports portrait orientation as well.
Consider purchasing an adapter to simplify leveling
Adjusting the knobs on an adapter between the tripod and the telescope is generally much easier than trying to adjust the tripod legs.
Use Station Mode when possible
Connecting the Seestar S50 to a home Wi-Fi network is easy to do, and offers multiple advantages:
1) A device can connect to the Seestar S50 and the internet simultaneously.
2) A device can connect to the Seestar S50 from anywhere on the home network.
Leverage the Continue/Restart image feature
If a user stops an image sequence on a deep-sky target, then starts a new sequence (without changing targets), the Seestar S50 offers the choice to Start a new stack or Continue adding to the already started stack.
I utilize this feature for these purposes:
1) To create sequence of images with varying exposure durations. I do this
a) for comparison, to gauge the required exposure duration
b) when a longer exposure time is not necessarily better (e.g., for comets -- the comet image spreads out over time since the Seestar S50 tracks at sidereal rate, rather than tracking the comet)
c) to capture a good image in case an event disrupts the image (while problems are infrequent, the imaging system captures satellites and meteors, which may or may not be welcome, and sometimes encroaching trees or clouds)
2) To capture images with and without targets marked.
